On the design wall...

At least just for a little while. Once I start some more blocks there won't be any more room left on the design wall. So instead I'll have to move a dresser in my kiddos room and use his wall because this is going to be a queen size quilt. This quilt consists of a mixture of fabrics. This is Hilary's quilt, by the way. She's a friend of a friend that I met once and I'm so excited I'm getting this opportunity to make this for her. She sent some Amy Butler Soul Blossoms charm packs in the Bliss colorway (blues and greens with a little but of pink) and a Soul Blossoms jelly roll and a couple Moda Bella solids jelly rolls. It also has a few Heirloom charms in the purple and pinks. I decided to use a simple modern block and will use 80 of them (in an 8x10) layout with some borders to make the quilt top.

These blocks are really easy to do.

Here's a little guide to show you how to do it.
CLICK on images to make them larger if you cannot see them very well. When you're done looking at the picture, click the back button on your browser to bring you back to the instructions.

Start with one (1) 5" charm square, and one (1) jellyroll strip.
Subcut your jellyroll strip into the following pieces (your jellyroll strip should come prefolded, so you should only have to cut once for each size, since it will give you both pieces):
Two (2) 2.5" x 5" pieces
Two (2) 2.5 x 9" pieces
Take your two (2) 2.5 x 5" pieces. Match up the 5" sides right sides together
and sew with a quarter inch seam. Press seams to the outside.
Now take your two (2) 2.5" x 9" pieces. Match the 9" sides right side together
and sew with a quarter inch seam. Press to the outside.
Trim any lingering hangovers and you should now have a 9" square!
