Finished for a Cause...

Where do I begin? I look at beautiful quilts on the most fabulous blogs and receive great inspiration to quilt, but I never muster up the motivation. With this particular quilt, I knew I needed to. A couple years ago my sister decided to participate in the AVON Walk for Cancer and needed to raise the participation donation minimum of $1800. I decided to help her out and contacted several companies that I knew would draw my friends and family to help out. Including Pink Chalk Fabrics, Lisa Leonard, and The Vintage Pearl. I too wanted to be inlcuded, even for just a moment, with the people associated with these companies. I pulled out my small bin of fabric, and decided that even though I'm not that experienced, and not that great at finishing projects, I would complete 2 small quilts for this fundraiser. And I did. This particular quilt was made from a Jelly Roll and I actually cut them down to 5 inch strips before I sewed them together. I used some simple white fabric that I probably picked up at my local little Walmart and used some coordinating tan fabric on the back with an extra strip of coins pieced into it. I used a few extra strips for the binding and I love it adds that little extra something to it. I have to say, I did not quilt this. I wanted it to be acceptable to the person bidding on it. I got a local longarm quilter to donate her time and she used the most beautiful pattern that I wish you could see. I had a hard time because I didn't want to become too attached to the quilt since I would have to be letting it go. As it turned out, my mother was the one that bid and won the quilt and it now sits in her living room. It's nice to see it when I visit and it may or may not end up in my bag to bring home one of these days.

I'm linking this post up to Amy's Creative Side for the Blogger's Quilt Festival.
